Within the imposing walls of S. Jorge Castle stands a small palace from the 18th century, built on the site of the former Alcáçova Palace kitchens. Popularly known as Kitchen's Mansion it combines construction elements of the rationalist Pombal's style with others of generous freedom, in an elegant building with two floors, a mansard and an inner courtyard. It

also presents medieval remains such as the old Cistern, which are thought to have belonged to the Palace’s outbuildings. Classified as an Historic Building, the Palace has undergone

How to get there

Solar do Castelo is located
in the very heart of Lisboa, over one of its most famous hills,
side by side with S. Jorge Castle.

From the Portela Airport,
the best way is to follow the
indications to Santa Apolónia
and then to Praça do Comércio (Terreiro do Paço). Once there, follow the signs that indicate Castelo de São Jorge.

Car access to the Castle area
is restricted, but allowed to our guests. After crossing the Porta de São Jorge, already within
the defensive walls, go by the Castle’s ticket office and continue through Rua de Santa Cruz.
Take the first left to Rua do Espírito Santo and at the end
of it turn left again. You will be
at Rua das Cozinhas, right at
the Hotel entrance.
